WHAT IS A HACKATHON?
Participants will collaborate in teams of up to four to build web, mobile, and hardware projects, while participating in workshops, learning from mentors, and competing for prizes. Border City Hacks provides a welcoming atmosphere for students to create and learn about all kinds of incredible technologies.
HACKATHONS SEEM EXPENSIVE…HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST TO PARTICIPATE? Border City Hacks is completely free! All you have to do is apply and show up, and we take care of everything else!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
High School and Post-Secondary students from across the Windsor-Essex region are able to apply for Border City Hacks! After all the applications are reviewed, you will get an email regarding your application status. Other students wishing to attend, please email bordercityhacks@gmail.com, and we will make an exception on a case by case basis!
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN BE ON A TEAM?
Teams are made of up to 4 people. Try to create a diverse team by having people from different schools and skill levels!
WHAT DO I HAVE TO BRING?
Your laptop, cables, chargers, and a piece of ID is essential. If you’re making something hardware-related, be sure to bring the needed components. We provide everything else, from the food to the space to drinks and more!
DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM?
No, not at all! If you've never programmed before, we'll teach you to write your very first line of code!?
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I AM ACCEPTED?
We will be doing our rounds of acceptances starting November 12th. You will get an email with the information.
I’VE NEVER BEEN TO A HACKATHON...SHOULD I EVEN APPLY?
Absolutely! Border City Hacks is a hackathon where individuals from various disciplines, schools, and backgrounds are encouraged to come out and participate.
